We become more aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence and power in our lives each day through spending time with God in prayer and the Scriptures. When we allow the Spirit to guide our thoughts and actions, we begin to see the evidence, or fruit, in our lives. The Holy Spirit allows us to experience peace, even in times of difficulty and uncertainty, and offer the same peace to others through our Spirit-filled, non-anxious presence.

Jesus commissioned us to make disciples. He gave us the Holy Spirit to be his active presence within us. Just as Jesus was able to connect with people in a way that opened them to his saving love, we can do the same when we listen for the Spirit’s guidance. The Holy Spirit will empower us to offer Christ in all our relationships and guide us toward the appropriate time, words, and actions.

Elijah had acted on God’s behalf and wound up sideways with the queen. Afraid, he ran until physically and spiritually exhausted and laid down to die. God spoke through an angel and encouraged Elijah to get up and eat. God would later encourage Elijah in a whisper and assure him that he would be okay. When we are discouraged, the Holy Spirit might simply encourage us through an impulse or the words of others us to get moving: right foot, left foot.

Through faith in Christ, each believer is given one or more specific gifts of the Holy Spirit for the purpose of serving. The gifts operate in conjunction with our innate talents, skill set, and life experiences to create a unique expression of the Holy Spirit to serve in Jesus’ name. Everyone has at least one and all are encouraged to share their gifts with the community.
1 Corinthians 12:1-11; Joel 2:28-29

Solomon was David’s son who was anointed king as a teenager. God came to Solomon in a dream and said he would give him whatever he wanted. Solomon asked for wisdom. Pleased with the request, God gave him great wisdom. The Holy Spirit continues to provide insight and wisdom to those who seek God’s perspective on issues great and small. God’s wisdom makes life better for us and for those we may influence.
